Why do I need I will?

If you have a complex family situation, such as a second marriage or step children, or if you are sharing your home with someone who is your civil partner? If your permanent home is outside of the UK or you have an investment property abroad and you want to leave money or property to dependants who cannot care for themselves? If you have small kids and a mortgage, it is time to put a Will in place to ensure that your wishes are being followed in any emergency and avoid potential family disputes after you pass away.

A will is the only way to make sure your money, property, possessions and investments go to the people which you care about e.g. your spouse, children, grandchildren, parents or your friends. If you die without a legally valid will in place it is known as dying “intestate”, meaning that the law decides how your estate is divided up which follows a strict line of succession.
